How to Advance

Advancement may be achieved by scoring low in Three SCCJGA tournaments

A junior who wishes to compete in our SCCJGA tournaments can advance to the next card level by shooting a target score in three SCCJGA tournaments. If you only reach one or two target scores in a given year those scores will carry over to the next year.
Shoot these scores in Three(3) SCCJGA tournaments to advance to the next card level

Boys

Bronze to Silver -------17 over par on 18 holes
Silver to Gold---------- 7 over par on 18 holes

Girls

Silver to Gold--------------17 over par on 18 holes

Below is a description of each of the tests to aid in preparing for the test.

Fairway Irons

Using a five iron at the driving range, the objective of fairway irons is to hit 6 out of 10 balls the required distance (per skills test criteria) or farther in the air. The ball must land within the width of area (as specified on the test sheet) at the end of the hit. In other words, the player will establish a target and the ball needs to land within 13 yards of the target on either side. (Player will receive 3 - 5 warm up balls only.)

Fairway Wood

Using a three wood at the driving range, the objective of fairway wood is to hit 6 out of 10 balls the required distance (per skills test criteria) or farther in the air. The ball must land within the width of area, (35 yards as specified on the test sheet) at the end of the hit. In other words, the player will establish a target and the ball needs to land within 18 yards of the target on either side. (Each player is given 3 - 5 practice balls.)

Driver

Using a driver at the range, the objective is to hit 6 out of 10 balls the required distance (per skills test criteria) or farther in the air. The ball must land within the width of area (35 yards as specified on the test sheet) at the end of the hit. In other words, the player will establish a target and the ball needs to land within 18 yards of the target on either side. (Each player is given 3 - 5 practice balls.)

Pitching

Using a pitching wedge, the objective is to pitch 6 out of 10 balls 50 ft. into an established circle on the green. The pitching will take place roughly 15 to 20 ft. away from the edge of the green and must stop in the designated circle. The diameter of the circle changes based on the card level the player (junior golfer) is testing for (see skills test criteria). The circles are made of nylon colored string, with each color circle depicting the card and skill level the junior is testing for (i.e. Gold circle for Gold and a Silver circle of Silver.) Each player is given 3 - 5 practice balls.

Chipping

Using an iron of the golfers choice, the objective is to chip 6 out of 10 balls from one foot off the edge of the green 40 ft. into a designated circle on the green. The diameter of the circle changes based on the level card the player (junior golfer) is testing for (see skills test criteria). The circles are made of nylon colored string, which each color circle depicting the card level the junior golfer is testing for (i.e. Bronze circle for Bronze and a Gold circle for Gold.) Each player is given 3 - 5 practice balls.

Putting

Using a putter, the objective is to make the required number of putts out of 10 try's from each of the 3 specified distances (see skills test criteria). Tees in the turf delineate each of the 3 distances the player puts from. The warm-up practice for the putting is the first set of 10 balls at the shot distance.

Sand Play

The player (junior golfer) must successfully play (see test criteria) out of the sand on to the green, hitting ten balls. Anywhere on the green is acceptable. Each player is give 3 - 5 practice shots. Each player must rake the trap when finished to prepare trap for next player.
